PFS POD High-Pressure Fuel-Pump Upgrade

The PFS Planetary OverDrive system increases the operating speed of the compatible BMW N54/early N55 mechanical high-pressure fuel pump. Because pump flow capability increases with shaft speed, the 3:1 overdrive ratio expands direct-injection capacity without immediately adding port or methanol injection.

How It Works

The planetary gearbox drives the factory-style HPFP at three times the original shaft speed. The system retains ECU-controlled direct injection while increasing available high-pressure fuel volume for higher-output builds.

Kit Contents

  • PFS POD planetary gearbox
  • Fuel rail
  • Phenolic fuel-rail gaskets
  • High-pressure fuel line
  • -6 hose with replacement low-pressure fuel-sensor bracket
  • Support bracket, bolts, and washers

Low-Pressure Fuel Supply

PFS recommends an upgraded in-tank low-pressure fuel system. A Single Shot 274 pump is recommended for builds up to approximately 600 WHP; higher-output combinations should use at least a Double Shot dual-274 system or an equivalent higher-capacity supply.

Calibration

Many installations can operate without immediate calibration changes, but tuning adjustments are recommended and may be required to use the POD’s full capability. Work with a tuner experienced in the BMW direct-injection system and verify low- and high-pressure targets under load.

Fitment Warning

The POD does not fit BMW 5 Series applications without modifying the support brace. Contact VTT/PFS before ordering for a 5 Series or any configuration with nonstandard fuel-system or engine-bay hardware.

Professional Installation Required

This product modifies high-pressure gasoline components. Installation, leak testing, system priming, and calibration must be completed by qualified personnel using appropriate high-pressure fuel-system safety procedures.
