VTT BMW N55/S55 Crank-Bolt Capture

Add a mechanical safeguard against crank-bolt loosening on supported BMW N55 and S55 engines. The VTT capture surrounds the factory crank-bolt head and locks to the damper fasteners so the bolt cannot rotate independently.

Important Limitation

A crank-bolt capture helps prevent the bolt from backing out, but it is not a complete repair for every crank-hub failure mode. It does not create a keyed or splined connection between the crankshaft and hub.

Factory Bolt Required

The VTT capture is designed for the factory crank bolt only and will not fit an aftermarket crank bolt. Confirm the bolt head and damper configuration before installation.

Clocking and Installation

In some vehicles the capture holes may not align with the crank-bolt head and damper bolts at the existing torque position. Do not force the capture into place. Follow the current BMW/VTT procedure; a new factory crank bolt may be required so it can be torqued and clocked correctly. Crank-hub work must be performed by a qualified technician using the applicable engine-locking and torque-angle procedures.
